St. Marianne Cope (1838-1918)

Mother Marianne of Molokai was born in Germany, but moved to Utica, New York, with her family.  She entered the Sisters of Saint Francis in Syracuse, New York, and worked in education and community administration.  She studied medicine and volunteered for mission work in Hawaii where she collaborated with Blessed Damien De Veuster in caring for the sick.  Her feastday is January 23. The Blessed Marianne Cope website has further information.
