Catechetical Leadership Program
CATECHETICAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
An academic program for Coordinators of Religious Education, it consists of courses in theology and catechetics as well as in catechetical administration. It is a necessary component of the certification process for the Coordinator.
All courses are 8 sessions of 3 hours each.
Classes are held once a week. Students should expect several hours of homework a week.
Christology
provides an overview of the Church's understanding of the person and mission of Jesus as revealed in the Scriptures and in the development of Christology in the history and tradition of the Church.
Morality
presents Catholic morality and explores the criteria for moral decision making.
Church History up to the Present
provides an exploration of the development of the Church as affected by sociological, political and historical factors.
Church Documents including Vatican Council II
presents an overview of the rich tradition of Church documents from the period of the early Church to the present, with a special emphasis on the Second Vatican Council
History of the Sacraments
examines the theological and the historical development of the seven Catholic sacraments
Development of the Christian Person
explores the development of the Christian person according to Catholic spirituality and human psychology.
Catechetical Administration
teaches the nature and history of catechesis and its multi-cultural context as well as leadership styles and collaborative ministry; developes skills for the promotion of parish catechetical programs for all ages. Some sessions are specialized for Coordinators of elementary religious education, youth ministry, adult faith formation and RCIA leaders
Communication Skills
teaches those skills necessary for effective parish catechetical administration, focusing on listening skills, interviewing, group management, effective oral and written communication, public speaking, conflict management.

Catechist Formation, Level I and Level II
Basic Leadership Training Course
Tuition for Program:
Each course is $ 350. Parish provides the tuition for its Coordinator.

History of the Sacraments

This course presents the theological and historical development of the seven Catholic Sacraments. It will be taught by Rita Ferrone, an award-winning writer and teacher of liturgy, catechesis and Christian Initiation. She holds a Masters of Divinity from Yale Divinity School. Rita Ferrone is the author of several books, including Liturgy: Sacrosanctum Concillium, which received the 2008 Catholic Press Award. She prepared the meditations for an evangelization program well-used by parishes called Living the Eucharist. Rita has taught this Advanced Catechetical Leadership Course before and was greatly appreciated by the students.
